INVITATION TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL

All proposals are due April 12, 2007.

The Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center invites you to submit a proposal for a workshop presentation during The 9th Annual National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. We encourage you to consider making a presentation that fits into one of the content areas described below. We strongly encourage submissions that show evidence of success and sustained efforts over time. Submissions from youth presenters are also encouraged. Because the conference has grown and efforts around the nation are at various stages of development, we are going to provide Novice and Advanced tracks in the following content areas:

Enforcement Operations and Techniques:

These workshops will include innovative enforcement strategies that address retail and social sources of alcohol for youth. Workshops should highlight how community support has facilitated the implementation of these strategies. Examples of workshops in this category may include: Rural Enforcement Operations, Development of Operational Plans for Law Enforcement, and specific programs that law enforcement agencies can utilize to prevent underage drinking (e.g., Source Investigation Programs, Bar Security Programs, Social Host Enforcement Operations, Special Underage Drinking Saturation/ Enforcement patrols, DWI/DUI Enforcement related to Underage Drinking, Party Prevention, Party Patrol and Party Dispersal Enforcement Operations, Use of Community Volunteers, Alternative Judicial Sentencing Programs etc.).

Environmental Strategies:

These workshops will include how States and communities have implemented changes in environments to reduce retail and social availability of alcohol to youth. Workshops should be able to demonstrate a measurable change in the environment relevant to youth access to alcohol. Examples of workshops in this category may include: Advertising Laws, Ordinance Development and Implementation, Media Literacy Programs, and specific programs that promote environmental prevention strategies to address underage drinking.

Community mobilization:

These workshops will include how local community coalitions and state and national organizations have worked to draw attention to the problems and causes associated with underage drinking. Examples of workshops in this category may include, but are not limited to: Funding Issues, Working with Judiciary partners, Youth Development for Adults, Working with Parents, and specific programs that have been implemented to address underage drinking through mobilization and advocacy.

Population-Specific Programs:

These workshops will include how communities have effectively brought their underage drinking efforts to meet the needs of specific populations. Examples of workshops in this category may include: Rural communities, Colleges/Universities, programs specific to Native Americans, Latinos, African-Americans, military bases, or any specific group of individuals or types of communities.

Research:

Workshops in this category will offer information that can help assist law enforcement and community agencies in their work to curb youth access to alcohol and reduce underage drinking. Examples in this category may include: Outcomes of specific underage drinking programs, data collection, and any research that is up-to-date (preferably released since the last conference).

Youth:

Workshops in this category will be led by youth along with youth and/or adult co-presenters. Workshops should highlight or raise awareness on alcohol related issues affecting their community. The workshop will include innovative strategies that focus on youth advocacy program or policy changes where youth play an active role using environmental strategies on reducing youth access.
